Also for Monday…

I also forgot to remind you that on Monday, we will have Pinewood Derby cars available.  You may either purchase them with your Scout Bucks (see Troy Frazier for receiving yours) or $5 cash.  The Pinewood Derby race will be January 29th so the boys will need to start these ASAP.

Pack Meeting this Monday 1-3-10

Just wanted to remind everyone that there is a pack meeting this Monday night.  The Webelos 2 will be bridging to Boy Scouts that evening.  Our den is doing closing so I expect all boys to be there.   For the closing, here will be the boys roles:

Narrator – Ryan

Pack Flag – Jacob

US Flag – Cooper

Evan and Reese will be backups if, for some reason, the other boys are sick.  Here is the closing:

Retiring of Colors – Indoors

Narrator

Actions

Will the audience please rise? (Pause.)

The color guard waits in the back of the room for the audience to rise and become quiet.

Color guard, advance.

The U.S. flag guard and bearer and pack flag guard and bearer walk down the aisle and to the flags. They stand behind the flags, facing the audience.

Color guard, salute.

The guards and bearers salute.

Color guard, retire the colors.

The U.S. flag is removed first (just slightly ahead of the pack flag).

Hand salute.

Everyone, with the exception of the guards and bearers, salutes. The U.S. flag stays on its “marching right” as the guards and bearers proceed down the aisle to the rear of the room.

Two.

Everyone drops the salute.

Sorry…one more thing….

Also, I will be giving a bag to the boys for trash pickup.  While they are out delivering the bags, they should also pick up any trash they see along the way.  At all times, they should be practicing Leave No Trace.

On Monday, their chore charts are due to me.  So make sure that the boys have this.  They also need to think of what they want to do for their conservation project.  It can be as simple as picking a date and time and going to pick up trash at the park.  I am open to any ideas that someone might have.

Scouting for Food

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Scouting for Food Bag Drop-off.  Everyone will be meeting at my house at 9am.  I will be giving out the maps of your portion at that time.  The area will be divided among our boys and Mike LaRosa’s den.  The map that I give you, you must hold on to it, this will be the map you will use on the 13th to pick up.  If you can not pickup on the 13th, you need to arrange for someone to take your area.

My address:

627 Holly Crest Drive

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Den Meeting October 18, 2010

Yeah!  I got time to do one before the end of the week :)

This week we started working on our Citizen badge. This is a requirement in order for the boys to get their Webelos badge.  We also are working on getting the United States Heritage Award.  This is an award that I found where when the boys complete it, they will receive a patch.  It shows that they have an understanding of the United States just as what we will be learning with Citizen.  I thought this would be a cool incentive for the boys to receive.

For Citizen, we worked on requirement 1, 3, and 8.  For 8, they will be receiving their Citizenship belt loop if they have not already earned it.

The boys need to be thinking about a den service project that they would like to do.  It can be as simple as picking a time and day and going to pick up trash somewhere.  I just want each boy to give an idea of what they want to do.  I want their suggestions at the next den meeting.

Also, for homework, they were given a chart.  They are to list jobs that they are to do around the house.  With this chart, they are to chart their progress for one week.  I will expect this to be shown to me at the next den meeting.  I am also wanting the boys to actually do this.  I have had some stuff turned in to me that is obviously not in their handwriting.  I need proof that the boys are completing this and not the parents.

Since we have a 2 week break from den meetings (because of Halloween Party and Pack meeting), if the boys would like to complete the next homework assignment during this time, they can.  For this portion they will need to make a poster showing things they can do to be a good citizen.  When they complete this, they will present it to the den.

Important dates and other information:

October 25th – Halloween Party – Start time will be 6:30! Each boy needs to bring in a bag of candy for the goodie bags that will be given out in the end.  We will also be doing the Twister Hopscotch game for our part of the party.  I need parent volunteers to help me.  I need probably at least 2 at all times, if you would like to rotate.  I also will need someone to walk around with the boys.  This will be exactly like last time as far as rotating from game to game.  Also, if anyone has an additional Twister Hopscotch game, please let me know.  Or even a regular Twister.  That way we can split the group up then after so long, they can switch games.

November 1st – Pack Meeting -  We will be doing the opening flag ceremony.

November 6th – Scouting For Food Bag Drop off. After we drop off bags, we will also go around and do a show and sale.  Please let me know who will and will not be going, that way I know on how many to plan for.

November 13th – Scouting for Food Back Pick up and Roller Skating.  We will be picking up bags that morning and then going roller skating in the afternoon.  The pack will only be paying for the boys that helped with Scouting For Food.  If you do not help, you will need to pay for your boys to go.

November 15th – Art Fair.  This will be during den meeting times.  The boys that need to do an original art piece (not one done at school) to submit.  Please refer to the Artist activity badge that way the boys can incorporate the requirements in their artwork to help with them getting their activity badge.

As always, if you have any problems or concerns, please let me know.

Parent Letters

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been slacking with the parent letters that I was trying to do every week.  It just seems to always be something.

I know that a few have been missing meetings so I do want to make sure they get caught up.  Tomorrow night we are going to start the Citizen activity pin.  This will possibly take 2 to 3 meetings to complete.  If anyone is going to miss, please let me know so we can get your son caught up this item.

Next Monday, the 25th, we will be having our Halloween party so I need to know which boys along with their siblings.  I need to let them know that they have enough refreshments for everyone.

Then the following Monday, we will be having our Pack Meeting.  I do realize that they are out of school that day but we will see be having our pack meeting.  If anyone is going to miss, please let me know.  The boys will be doing the opening so part of their achievements is to do this so we need to make sure all boys are there.

Webelo-ree

Just wanted to let everyone know about food costs for this weekend.  If you attended the webelo-ree, the cost was $5 a person.  Thanks to Paul and Mike for doing that for us.

Zoo Trip

After looking the weekends and trying to figure out a good date for the rescheduled zoo trip, I think we are going to have to postpone it until the spring when it gets warm again.  I want to make sure we can get as many to go and we have so many activities for the next two months, it is hard.  Plus I know that some people do attend church on Sundays so I wanted to make sure to not schedule it then.  Also, if someone wants to do something different, just let me know.  For the boys that are not coming to Webelo-ree this weekend, this is going to be a trip you must really try to go to.  This is the final thing that most of you need to finish Naturalist.  The boys that are going camping this weekend will be completing theirs this weekend.  Also, if someone would like to do something different besides the zoo, let me know.  For the requirement, they need to visit a nature center, zoo, or natural history museum.  I am open to any suggestions that you may have.

Zoo Trip

I wanted to get everyone’s input about the zoo trip.  I had it scheduled for the 20th but due to Leader training, I will most likely need to change this.    At this time, with all the activities, going on, it looks like we will need to either move it to a Sunday or possibly do it October 30th instead.  I just wanted to get everyone’s input and see how they felt about the date change.  I had also invited the other dens if they would like to go so if we do change the date, I need to do it sooner than later.

Parent Letter

Sorry that I didn't get the parent letter out for last week.  Things got hectic and I wasn't able to.  If anyone missed last Monday and wants to know what we completed, please email me and I can let you know.  We worked on the other half of Naturalist and I can let you know what exactly to do on the sheet that I have given to them.  Once that is completed and we go on our trip to the Zoo (or Natural History Museum), the boys will have completed Naturalist.

Once again, I need to get a head count of who is interested in going to the Webelo-Ree this weekend.  So far I have only heard from 2 about whether or not they are attending.  Just keep in mind, if you cant not attend, the boys will have an opportunity to go this coming April and this time next year before they bring to Boy Scouts.  I know some people had some scheduling issues and wasn't sure if they could.  If you can’t, it is not a big deal.  I have already put down plans in my den meetings to do some of the pins that they will be completing at Webelo-Ree.

Webelo-Ree

I wanted to get with everyone and see who is going to be signing up for the Webelo-Ree for next weekend.  We need to figure out how many will be coming from the dens in order to make some plans.  Please let me know ASAP if you will be attending or not.

ANNOUCEMENTS!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!

I just wanted to make sure to remind everyone that the concession stand is this weekend at the church.  We are needing help with breakdown and clean up but any time you can offer would be appreciated.  I would expect that any of the boys that did not help with the popcorn sales at the Farmer’s Market those two weekends, make a point to be at the concession stand to help out.  Part of being “active” for their Webelos badge is that they need to attend fundraising activities to help the pack, not just show to den meetings.  I do realize that some of the boys have turned in popcorn sales sheet but, you are still needing to come and attend other fundraising activities.

Also, for anyone who will be attending Webelo-Ree next weekend, we will need the money turned in this Monday.  It is $20 for scouts, $15 for parents.  If you could please let me know whether you are coming or not, that would be great.  I need to know if our den will be participating in this activity.  Unfortunately, I didn't get information about this until this Monday.

I will also be doing the parent email this afternoon for anyone that missed the meeting on Monday so you know what you need to catch up on.  Just make sure that I see proof that you completed the items that I can give you credit.  The best way would be to complete the parts of the worksheets I give the boys and turn it into me.  Like I said, I will be sending that email out later.

Here are the events/activities going on for October and November:

October

2nd – Concession Stand at Culpeper United Methodist

4th – Pack Meeting

8th-10th – Webelo-Ree

11th – Den Meeting

16th – Concession Stand @ AG Richardson

17th – Den Show and Sell @ 2pm (more details to come on exact location)

18th – Den Meeting

25th – Halloween Party

November

1st – Pack Meeting

6th – Scouting for Food Bag Drop Off

8th- Den Meeting

13th – Scout For Food Bag Pick Up.  Also on the 13th, we will be going roller skating that afternoon.  The pack will be paying for the boys that participate in Scouting For Food.  If you do not participate in Scouting for Food, then you will need to pay for your scout.

15th – Art Fair

20th – Zoo/Natural History Museum trip.  If the weather is nice, we will be going to the zoo, if not, we will go to the Natural History Museum.  This will be for the completion of Naturalist for the boys.

22nd – Den meeting

27th – Fundraising Event at Tree Farm.  We will be setting up in shifts.

29th – Den Meeting

If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me.

Week of September 20th, 2010

September 20, 2010

Dear Roadrunner Parents:

I want to make sure to remind the couple of boys that did not have their assignments this past Monday that they will need to turn them in this coming Monday. An assignment sheet was sent home as well as an email to remind them of the assignment.

Today we worked on the following requirements or achievements for your son's Webelos Handbook:

Naturalist Activity Badge: Requirements are to do requirements 1 and then five of 2 -13.

1. With a parent, guardians, or Webelos Den Leader, complete the Respect Character Connection.

a. Know: Tell what interested you most when completing the requirements for this activity badge. Tell what you have learned about how you can show appreciation and respect for wildlife.

b. . Commit: Tell things some people have done that show a lack of respect for wildlife.

c. . Practice: Explain how completing the requirement for this activity badge gives you the opportunity to show respect.

4. Visit a museum of natural history, a nature center, or zoo with your family, Webelos den, or pack. Tell what you saw. (This is the zoo trip that is planned for November 20th.

8. Watch six wild animals in the wild. Describe what kind of place where you saw them. Tell what they were doing.

10. Identify a plant, bird, or wild animal that is only found in your area of the country. Tell why it only survives in your area.

Athlete Activity Badge: Requirements are to do requirements 1-5 and then 2 of 6-10. (This is a continuation that will be going on until October 18th)

6. Do a vertical jump and improve your reach over 30 days.

7. Do a 50 yard dash as fast as you can and decrease over time.

The boys were assigned these items for homework that will be due at the den meeting on September 27, 2010:

Practice Activity Badge Requirements at Home for Improvement

We will be filling out chart weekly until Oct. 18, 2010

We will be continuing working on Naturalist next week. We will also be continuing Athlete by completing another vertical jump and 50 yard dash. We will also be introducing the requirements for the Webelos Badge.

I do want to let everyone know that part of the Webelos badge is being an active member in the den for 3 months. Active would be participating in other activities such as popcorn sales, concession stands, and other extra activities. I just want to make sure that all boys are participating in other activities instead of just den meetings and the “fun” stuff.

Also, due to the possibility of our den growing, we are going to be doing some things different in our den starting this Monday. First, I will be moving the two tables together when I come in for the meetings. The boys need more room and I feel this will help out a lot. I am asking that parents who are staying during the meeting sit in the back of the room with whatever chairs are available. I am also asking that parents please keep conversations to a minimum during den time. It is hard to get the boys to calm down if the parents are being just as loud.

Also, we need to have some of the boys settling down more during meetings. I understand that sometimes we have things to go over that they don’t find “fun” but unfortunately, there are some things about our activity badges that we can just go run around and play to get it done. If the den does grow, I will have to ask boys to leave the meeting if they cannot control themselves. All I ask is the boys keep the comments to a minimum and raise their hand when they want to say something. When they become boy scouts, they will be expected to control themselves in order to get the items done that they need to. Since they are now 4th graders, I would expect that they know how to act.

I do want to make sure that everyone is reading these emails. I will be sending them out weekly, that way you know what is going on. If you have any problems or questions, please feel free to get a hold of me. I want the boys to have a successful year and there are a lot of fun things planned that are either pack activities or den activities.

Dear Roadrunner Parents:

Today we worked on the following requirements or achievements for your son's Webelos Handbook:

2.  With a parent, or other adult member, complete a safety notebook which is discussed in the booklet in the front of the book. *This is an at home project*

3.  Read the menu planning information in this chapter. With a parent or other family member, plan a week of meals. Explain what kind of meals are good for you and why.

Athlete Activity Badge: Requirements are to do requirements 1-5 and then 2 of 6-10.

1. With your parent, guardian, or Webelos den leader, complete the Perservence character connection.

a. Know: Review the requirements and decide which ones might be more difficult for you to do. Make a plan to complete one of the harder requirements.

b. Commit: When doing a harder requirement do you feel frustrated or angry? What did perseverance have to do with that? Name another type of task for which you will need to preserve?

c. Practice: Practice Perservance by following your plan to do that requirement for the Athlete Activity Badge.

2. Explain what it means to be physically and mentally healthy.

3. Explain what you as a Webelos Scout can do to stay physically and mentally healthy.

Read Naturalist chapter in Handbook

Sept. 20, 2010

For our next den meeting on September 20, 2010, we will be working on requirements for the Naturalist activity badge in the Webelos Handbook. To prepare, please make sure you son reads the Naturalist section in his Webelos book.

Part of the Naturalist activity badge is to visit a natural history, nature center, or zoo with your family. I have planned for a trip to the National Zoo on November 20th. We will be meeting at Ledo’s Pizza at 8am. We will be going to the Vienna/Fairfax metro station to go into DC. If weather is not permitting this, we will change the plans to take the trip to the Natural History museum since then it will be inside.

Hope to see everyone at the next den meeting on September 20th.

Popcorn Sales September 18 and 25th

The pack is doing popcorn sales for the next two Saturdays from 7am – 12pm.  We are looking for people willing to come work some hours at these two sales.  I would expect that everyone from our den at least come and help sell at one of these two dates.  I have already had 3 boys from our den participate so I would hope that the other 4 would be able to fit it into their schedule to help.  You don't have to stay the whole time but at least an hour or two.  This will help you also get credit for selling popcorn.

I will also be scheduling show and sales after these dates for our den.  I will most likely schedule at least 2.  I would expect if that you can not sell at one of the dates, that you would be at the other.  I will have more about what dates we will be doing it here in the next week or so.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

Saturday, September 11th

This Saturday, the pack will be doing a popcorn sale at the Farmer’s Market.  I know that this is short notice but I wanted to see if anyone would be able to help at this event.  The times are from 7am – 12 noon.  If anyone is able to help out during this time frame, please let me know ASAP.

It’s that time of year again…

Just wanted to send out an email and go over some stuff while I was doing the planning for our first few den meetings.  Den meetings will start this coming Monday, September 13th, same time, same room.

The first thing that I wanted to address coming into a new scouting year is that we will be having a very busy year.  We have a lot to accomplish and I would like to get it done in a timely fashion.  With that, I would like to go over what will be expected out of the boys.  The disruptive behavior will not be tolerated this year.  We have too much to do and I do not have time to stop and wait for the boys to pay attention.  If the boys can not control themselves, they will be excused from the meetings.  This will include pack meetings.  We had too many times this year when boys from our den had to be talked to about behavior.  The boys are old enough now to know to behave when it comes to getting work done.  Behavior like this will not be tolerated when they become Boy Scouts and it will not be tolerated now that they are Webelos.

I also want to go over parents attending the meetings.  I have a few times last year where I had to also wait for the parents to stop conversing so that I could continue the meetings with the boys.  I can not expect the boys to be quiet and pay attention if the parents can not do the same.  I would like to see the parents help with keeping the boys quiet and not contribute to the noise problem.

I also want to give everyone a heads up that it is of course, popcorn time.  This year, we are waiting each boy to sell at least ONE item in order for the pack to receive a high percentage of sales this year.  The more popcorn that is sold, the more the pack can do.  It is not hard to sell ONE time but I would like each of our den to $100 to order to really help the pack out.  If everyone in the pack sells $100, this will be one of the best years financially.  I know that a lot of people do not like to sell popcorn but this is what makes the pack run.  The pack CAN NOT run on dues alone.  I also want to let everyone know this year we will be doing show and sells.  I will be scheduling at least TWO dates for these show and sells and I expect that each boy at least attend ONE of the dates that I choose.  I do understand that some children are playing sports such as football so I am going to try to make them at different times to help with that so if you can make one, I will expect to see you at the other.

I also wanted to let everyone know that John Dodson made it known that there will be NO PLAYING ON THE PLAYGROUND AT THE CHURCH.  THAT EQUIPMENT IS FOR THE CHURCH AND NOT FOR OUR USE.  IF IT GETS BROKEN, IT WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AND NOT THE PACK TO PAY FOR THE ITEMS.  IF A BOY IS CAUGHT ON THE PLAYGROUND THEY WILL BE SENT TO JOHN DODSON OR JOHN ALEXANDER.

Also, when boys are dismissed and they do not have a parent there, they are no longer allowed to leave until I personally see their parent pick them up.  We are having a problem with some boys leaving and instead of going to their parents, they are going outside to play on their own.  A few boys have been caught hanging from and pulling on branches of trees on top of many other things.  So if you plan on dropping off your child for the meeting, I will need to see you at drop off and see you at pick up.  I will not be releasing a boy until I physically talk to the parent.

I want to also thank Paul Fleming for stepping up this year and being my Assistant.  After a year of not having one, it is great to finally have one.  So I will expect the boys to show the same respect to him as any other leader.

I am really excited to have a great successful year and there are many exciting this going on.  I am hoping that this year will be the year that everyone participates and takes full advantage of all the wonderful things that the pack offers.  As always, if you have any problems please feel free to call or email me.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this weekend, July 23-25 is Family Camping @ Lake Sherando.  I wanted to remind everyone of this if they signed up to go.  If you did sign up, and now are unable to attend, please let me know so we can open the spots to people who wanted to go but didn't get signed up in time.

Just a reminder…

This Saturday is swimming at Lake Anna from 10am – 2pm.  Please make sure that you find a leader when you are there so that they know you have shown up.  Also, for anyone wanting to get their summer activity badge, you need THREE activities in order to receive this.  At this time, there are only THREE activities left for you to complete.  That would be this Saturdays swimming, Family Camping, and the Civil War Museum in August.  If anyone has any questions, please feel free to get with me.

Reminder: Scout Picnic June 13th

Just a reminder to everyone, that the picnic is this Sunday starting at 2 at Mountain Run Park.  Our den will be bringing SALADS such as potato salad, macaroni salad, pretty much anything that is like a good picnic side.  Hope to see everyone there :)

Monday, June 7, 2010

Tonight

I just wanted to let everyone know that I might not be there tonight.  Jay is out of town for the week for training and today my truck decided it wants a new battery.  My mother in law is bringing me a new one but it probably wont be until close to time for the pack meeting.  I am going to try to make it there if we get it in and just be late but as of right now, I am not sure what is going to happen.

Parade Line Up

For everyone that will be in the parade tomorrow, we are number 52 in the line up.  We will be competiting against Crew 198 and Pack/Troop/Crew 196.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Correction…

…Sorry I read the email I got too fast.  It looks like they put salad but it can be salads like macaroni, potato, etc.  Sorry about that…so scratch the first email….

Picnic at Mountain Run Lake

On June 13th, starting at 2pm, we will have our annual pack picnic.  Our den has been asked to bring salad.  That would be lettuce and some dressings.  Also, everyone can bring anything else that they would like to the picnic also.

Sunday, May 23, 2010

For tomorrow..

If you are planning to attend the trip to the Newseum on June 12th, money will need to be turned in tomorrow night.  We are going to try to be at the Newseum by 10am that morning.  Looking at the trip planning for the metro, you will need to take the train out of Vienna at 8:49am.  You do have the option of driving into DC but the Newseum does not have parking although there are parking garages.

If you are not able to attend on June 12th, you may go on your own.  We will be having a worksheet that the boys will need to turn in for credit.  If you want to go on your own, please let me know, and I will get that worksheet to you.

We will not be meeting May 31st because of Memorial Day.  The Yowell and Pearl Sample Fun Fairs will be on June 4th.  The scouts will start setting up at 4pm but John Dodson said he would like the boys there at least by 5.  I would like for everyone to at least participate at one of these Fun Fairs.  Please let me know which one you would like to help at.  I will be at Yowell since that is what school Ryan attends.

Our last meeting, which is a pack meeting, will be June 7th.  We are responsible for doing the closing, which the boys will work on tomorrow night.  The summertime activity schedule will be distributed.  To earn the Summertime activity pin, you need to complete 3 activates throughout the summer.

June 13th – Picnic at Mountain Run Lake Park.  Starts at 2pm.  The pack will provide the meats and drinks.  Each den will be assigned something to bring.

June 28th – July 2nd – Day Camp at Verdun

July 10th – Swimming at Lake Anna from 10am to 2pm.  (Fee for parking is $5, $2 for children 3 to 12, $3 for over 13, 3 and under are Free)

July 23rd – July 25th – Family Camping at Lake Sherando.  ($2 per person for dinner Saturday night.  All other meals and supplies are responsibly of individual families.)

August 21st – Trip to Richmond American Civil War Center ($5 for scouts, includes workbook and patch, $4 for adults)

I would like to plan some other activities for us to do as a den during the summer.  I know people will be on vacation so I will try to work around people being out of town.  Any suggestions would be great…

See you tomorrow!

Webelos Activity Badges

I just want to make sure that I remind to everyone about the boys earning Webelos Badges.  Now that they are Webelos, they have to earn their badges with the den and can not be completed on their own.  The only except to this will be for the items that I assign for homework.  With that said, the trip to the Newseum, the boys will working towards their Communicator activity badge.  This will give them opportunity to work on all, if not most, of the requirements for this badge.   At this time, I do not know if we will be working on this item again.  There may be a possibility but until I sit down and start working on the rest of the schedule, I can not guarantee that we will.

June 12th Trip to Newseum

I wanted to see who was interested or not in going to the Newseum on June 12th.  If you could let me know whether you are going or not, that would be great.

Tonight’s Den Meeting

I just wanted to remind everyone that for tonight, we will need the boys to bring a Philips head screwdriver and a hammer.  See you all tonight.

Reminder for Tomorrow’s Pack Meeting!!

Just wanted to send a reminder to let everyone know we have baked goods tomorrow for the pack meeting.  See everyone there!

Pack Meeting Monday, May 3rd

This is a reminder that at the pack meeting this Monday, we have baked goods.

Also, if you owe any money for the food for camping, please see Nancy Sink to pay for the food.  It needs to be paid to her and not the pack.

This will be the May pack meeting, which only leaves this month for den meetings before June which only consists of the pack meeting, then we have summer activities.  I want to stress the importance of trying to get dues paid up before the June pack meeting.  I have some people that owe for dues, even the recharter money which was due in December.  If you are having financial issues and need to work out something, please see Steven Golightly (our treasurer) or myself to let us know what is going on.  There are also some people who owe money for the items for bridging.  If that is you, please pay these ASAP as they came out of pack funds.

Concession Stand This Saturday, May 1st

This Saturday is our concession stand at the church.  We need as many people to come and help out especially with setting up and breaking down.  This is a big fundraiser for our pack.  Unfortunately, most of time, it is the same folks that do all the fundraisers so we would like to see some new faces out there.  We are looking for help between 7am to 2:30pm.  If you can at least come a help for 1 hour, that would be a wonderful help.  Please let me know if you will be able.

Attention: All Who Went Camping This Weekend

It has come to my attention that some people still owe money for the food for camping this weekend.  The food was paid for by myself and Nancy and was not taken from the pack’s account, therefore it is owed to us.  Nancy has asked that for everyone who has not paid, you please do so this Monday at the pack meeting.  The cost was $12 per person so for a parent and child, the total was $24.

Webelo Camping and Tommorrw Night's Meeting

I just want to thank everyone for a great weekend.  Even with all the rain, I think everyone had a lot of fun.  You guys did a wonderful job and was able to get a lot of things accomplished.  We will be doing this again in October so we will have more opportunities to get a lot more activity badges completed.

Tomorrow night, we are going to be working on an art project for Artist along with discussing some of the things that they learned at camp this weekend.  I think I should have enough Stotch Tape for the project but, just in case, if anyone has any additional, and they could bring it, that would be great.  That way, if anything, each boy can work off their own roll.

Once again, I want to thank everyone for a great weekend and I will see everyone tomorrow night.

Next Monday

Sorry to be confusing everyone but, the “thing” I wasn't able to get out of on Monday, I have been able to rearrange times so I will be able to be there.  So, we will go along with a den meeting as planned.

Also, if everyone could respond to the email to let me know that they got this.  I am still unclear as to who exactly reads the emails I send out or not.  If you know of any one in the den that does not receive my emails, please let me know or if you would like to contact them, that would be great.

Monday, April 26th

We are going to a start working on the Artist activity pin.  We are going to do a project from that so I want to make sure that the boys are ready to work when they come into the den meeting.  I will not have time to stop to explain and if the boys can not control themselves, they will be asked to leave.

Day Camp money will be due at this den meeting.  It is $150 per scout.  After May 1st, the amount goes up to $170 per scout.

Anyone who has no paid for their items from bridging, need to do so promptly as the pack paid for these items up front.  I have 3 that have still not paid.  If you need amounts of which you owe, please let me know.

Monday, May 10th

We will be working on a bird feeder which will involve the use of tools.  Once again, I will not have time to stop to wait for them to control themselves.

Reminder for Camping this Weekend!

I have had several people ask about camping this weekend and the weather.  We will be camping RAIN OR SHINE!  Also, we will be letting everyone know the total per person for the food.  I can’t imagine it being that much per person but once we get the final amount, I will let everyone know.  If you decide not to come, you will still owe the money for meals since we are have based all the meals on the exact number of people that are coming.  As of right now, there is a 60% chance of rain.  I am hoping that the weather changes, if not, make sure that you plan correctly for the wet weather.

RoadRunner Meeting – April 19, 2010

Tonight, the boys reviewed their Cub Scout Promise, Law of the Pack, Scout Law, and Scout Oath. We will be reviewing this often in preparation for them to be receiving their Webelos badge.

The first ticket drawing will be the first den meeting of May which will be May 10th. Since now, the boys should know what is expected of them in their den meetings so there should be no reason that each boy could not keep all 3 tickets to give them a better chance of being the winner. The winner will also become the denner for a month. So, whatever boy is the ticket winner in May, will be the denner for the meetings within that month.

We will also start recycling aluminum cans for the boys who would like to bring these in at the den meetings. This will be turned in to help with various projects that we are going to be doing as a den.

We worked on Leave No Trace and what that means. The boys were given worksheets that we are going to be working on. Boys that will be going on the camping trip this weekend will be using this practice while they are at the event. We also discussed parts of the Outdoorsman pin that they will be working on while camping this weekend.

Next Monday, April 26th, we will not be having a meeting.  Unfortunately, there is something that I can not get out of that evening.  Since I don't have an assistant, I am going to have to cancel the meeting all together.  I did want to remind everyone that applications and money are due for day camp that night so if anyone is planning on attending, you will need to get those items to the church that evening.

On June 12th, we have a trip planned to take the Webelos to the Newseum in Washington, DC. This trip is to give them an opportunity to complete the requirements for the Communicator activity pin. The costs of tickets are $16.91 for adults and $11.61 for children. We will be taking the Metro and the Smartfare price round trip is $4.90. If you will be attending, we will need to know by May 24th and the money for just the tickets will need to be paid then.

Homework for Next Den Meeting

1. Webelos Scout Parent Guide pages 1-22. Discuss with parents and have parents sign on page 49. This is the ONLY part of the book that the parents will be signing off on.

2. For the next den meeting, we will be building a project that requires tools. Each boy will need to bring screwdrivers and a hammer. Only hand tools are permitted.

Congrats!!

Congrats guys on becoming Webelos.  I don't know who exactly reads this blog from the den but I thought it would be a great tool to make sure that everyone is on the right page.  We are going to using this blog as a tool for what is for homework and just in case someone misses a meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS WEBELOS!

I just want to remind everyone of our meeting tomorrow.  Make sure to bring your book, your binder, and a pencil.  We want to get in the habit of this as we will need these once you bridge to Webelos.

Updating…

I know that I stopped using this halfway through the year.  I will be implementing this site to keep parents informed of what is going on.  I am hoping that this will be a good tool to use to post announcements for the parents.
